Activities that don’t have to cost a lot to enjoy

Camp out in the backyard – complete with marshmallows roasting over a campfire (or hot barbecue coals if you don’t have a fire pit) and swapping scary stories.

Feed the ducks. (Birdseed and popcorn kernels are much better food for birds’ health than stale bread.)

Head to the southern portion of the Avalon Peninsula to observe caribou from the roadside. The Avalon woodland caribou herd (numbering in the thousands) inhabits the area near the commu-nity of Trepassey.

Head for the hills and marshes to pick berries as they ripen.
